MetaIdentities: Digital Eternity.
MetaIdentities was born as a visionary project to create unique digital avatars capable of preserving and representing the emotions and stories of those who make them. Not just a copy, but an extension of human identity that continues to live beyond biological limits.
Inspired by the story of Lee, a man with a degenerative disease who turned his life into art, MetaIdentities has transposed his essence into a digital avatar. This allows Lee to continue to “exist” and tell his story, projecting it into the future.
MetaIdentities avatars open up fascinating scenarios: a digital legacy capable of inspiring and interacting with future generations. However, important ethical issues are addressed, such as the control and use of these digital identities. A project that combines innovation and reflection on the limits of virtual eternity.
The event
Emotions on the Skin
MetaIdentities was used during the “Emotions on Skin” event held in Rome in October 2024. Underlying the project is the essential contribution of Marco Rocchi, the tattoo artist who transformed Lee Robert Ness’s body into a living masterpiece.
Through collaboration with Carlo Alleva, a visual design expert, and Silvia Quadrini, a talented photographer, Lee’s avatar was integrated into an immersive visual experience, enriched by dynamic content that enhanced the project’s innovation.
This highlighted the potential of digital avatars not only as artistic tools, but also as means of extending human memory and interaction across time and space.
Scan Processing
Through a photo shooting session, we captured precise details of the human figure using advanced photogrammetry techniques. This rapid and accessible approach makes face scanning more inclusive and versatile for digital and immersive applications.

Scanning Process
- Preparation: The subject is placed in an environment with controlled lighting to ensure image quality.
- Photographic Capture: A series of photographs are taken from different angles, covering the entire surface of the face or body.
- Data Processing: The collected images are processed through photogrammetry software that reconstructs a detailed 3D model.
- Finishing: The 3D model is further refined to correct any imperfections and optimize the final quality.
