3D Prop
The “Italian Medieval Well” 3D digitization project arose from the need to transform photographic references into a highly detailed and interactive 3D model intended to be visualized on Unreal Engine. Our 3D digitization process always begins with the collection of visual information, such as photographs, technical drawings and floor plans, to ensure that every detail is accurately reproduced in the final model. The digitization service offered includes 3D modeling, optimization for real-time applications, and the ability to integrate the model into virtual environments, such as video games or VR/AR applications. For this specific project, the goal was to create a faithful representation of the well while maintaining high performance for integration into a graphics engine.
THE CHALLENGE.
Medieval Well – Planning
The main challenge of this project was to start from simple photographic references and transform them into an accurate and realistic 3D model, without sacrificing the performance of the model within Unreal Engine. The well, being a historical object, had complex details such as uneven surfaces, aged textures, and a unique architectural structure that had to be respected. It was necessary to balance visual quality with optimization, ensuring that the model could be used in real-time interactive environments. Our approach required special care in preserving historical and architectural details, while ensuring smooth, high-performance rendering across multiple platforms, including PC and VR.
THE SOLUTION.
Medieval well – Realization
To overcome these challenges, we followed a workflow that includes three main steps: modeling, texturing, and integration into Unreal Engine.
Modeling was done using Autodesk Maya, a software that allowed us to build the polygonal model of the well with obsessive attention to detail. Every stone and surface imperfection was modeled to faithfully replicate the appearance of the medieval well. Next, we used Substance Painter to create realistic textures, applying materials to recreate the effect of time on the stone and metal. Finally, the model was imported and optimized on Unreal Engine, where we set up dynamic lighting and a rendering environment that enhances the realism of the model while maintaining high performance.
This combination of techniques resulted in a visually impressive and highly optimized result for interactive experiences. The work done for the 3D digitization of the “Italian Medieval Well” demonstrates the effectiveness of our modeling and optimization service for real-time applications. Starting from photographic references, we were able to create a realistic and functional model suitable for both interactive virtual environments and high-quality static renders. The project not only met the client’s expectations in terms of historical fidelity, but also demonstrated the importance of optimization to ensure a smooth experience across different platforms.
